From free jazz pioneer to klezmer innovator: pianist Burton Greene’s career is unique. His klezmer, Sephardic and Balkan jazz group Klezmokum has its origins in Greene’s place of residence Amsterdam. He regularly travels to New York, where he experienced the free jazz revolution in the 1960s. He recorded solo improvisations for legendary record labels like ESP. Greene currently performs in the Big Apple with several musicians who include Mark Dresser, Roy Campbell and the Schuller Brothers. At the Bimhuis he plays two sets, one with New York double bassist Ed Schuller and one with Klezmokum.
