Pianist/componist Jeroen van Vliet starts his Carte Blanche with an ad hoc line up. 'It answers to a great passion of mine to improvise with excellent musicians like these, without any rules or agreements made in advance. To do this here at the Bimhuis is really exciting, especially because there is radio involved'. For the second set Van Vliet wrote pieces for his own trio together with the Zapp String Quartet and Michael Moore. 'The trio I work with, including Dré Pallemaerts and Frans van der Hoeven, hasn't performed too much but the concerts are still an intense musical adventure. Two years ago I did the project Sound Rituals with this trio, based on Speak like a Child of Herbie Hancock, in which dark copper horns (alto flute, bugle, trombone and bass trombone) as not-improvising musicians gave a context to the trio for improvisation. This time I would like to find more interaction and the idea to work with Zapp has been on my mind for quite a while. The strings will add another color than the copper, and also as a quartet, Zapp will be more independent and also improvise. Michael Moore, a great soloist, I take from the impro set to this line up.
