CARTE BLANCHE WALTER LAMPE
Walter Lampe (piano) in duo with Erik van der Weijden (altsax), solo, and in trio with Arjen Gorter (bass) Michael Vatcher (percussion)
Pianist Walter Lampe comes from the blues and jazz tradition but has developed a unique open-minded approach to improvisation and composition. He studied with the influential American jazz musician Mal Waldron. Walter Lampe was very active in the Sydney jazz scene before he moved to Amsterdam in the mid-1990s. Here he sought collaboration with fellow Australians such as Felicity Provan and Tony Buck, and he appeared in international bands and ensembles alongside, among others, Fay Victor, Michael Moore and Ernst Glerum.
Especially for this carte blanche, Walter Lampe has invited like-minded musicians to interpret a selection of his original compositions. His duo with saxophonist Erik van der Weijden has years of experience in improvising. Together with double bassist Arjen Gorter and percussionist Michael Vatcher he has played in various formations. Additionally, Walter Lampe will perform as a solo pianist.
