AFTERWARDS DJ PHONAUTOGRAM
CONCERT WITHOUT INTERMISSION
Chris Thile mandolin
Grammy winner Chris Thile is a phenomenon due to his solo concerts on
mandolin, in which he links bluegrass to classical music, indie rock and
improvisation. ‘Devilishly dexterous’ (The Guardian).
Chris Thile is broadly recognized as a musical innovator. In his hands the mandolin becomes a spectacular solo instrument. At a young age, the American musician was already a country and bluegrass virtuoso, but he dared to look further towards rock, jazz and classical music. His current repertoire includes material by Bach as well as Radiohead. During solo concerts he’s known to capture his audience with his humor and knowledge.
Chris Thile made name with the Grammy-winning group Nickel Creek and he currently celebrates success with the group Punch Brothers. Thile continues to seek collaboration with respected musicians from varied genres, from Brad Mehldau to Yo-Yo Ma and from Dolly Parton to Jack White. Recently he became the new host of the music show A Prairie Home Companion, which has been drawing millions of listeners every week since 1974.
‘Thile treats the mandolin as if it had a long virtuoso tradition, with constantly changing shapes and rhythms in the solo line’ (Los Angeles Times).
