Maarten Ornstein is everything but a traditional jazz musician. The saxophone and bass clarinet player has written music for divergent performers such as theatre group Orkater, choreographer Anouk van Dijk and the Calefax Reed Quintet. Bangalore!, the new album by his project Dash!, sounds like an Eastern mix of Frank Zappa and Funkadelic, according to Dutch newspaper Parool. ‘Dash! manages to unfold a complex rhythmic framework and build a fat groove at the same time’ (Trouw).
