In this unique series of five late night concert at the Bimhuis café (Th 24 - Mo 28 May), the world renowned pianist/composer Dave Burrell will present his take on jazz history. Dave Burrell (1944) grew up in an environment of blues, gospel and traditional jazz. He made a name for himself as a pioneer of the New York avant-garde in the 1960s. Archie Shepp, Pharoah Sanders, David Murray, William Parker and other giants of free jazz were his musical partners. His wide musical interests are reflected in his solo performances. ‘Dave Burrell’s solos are pianistic pearls.’ (DownBeat).
