Drew Gress is one of the busiest bass players in New York. He has collaborated with band leaders such as Uri Caine, Fred Hersch, Dave Douglas and Don Byron. This is obvious, because Gress unites the best of both worlds; solid accompaniment and an open mind while exploring free space. These qualities are reflected in his compositions, which relate to bebop as well as Bartok. 'As a leader, Gress employs a superbly articulate bassist (himself), but his primary interest is composition and arrangement and collective concept.' (Downbeat).
