‘Tough tenor’ Hans Dulfer plays music by American blues giant Leadbelly, whose songs have been covered by, among others, Tom Waits, Nirvana en Led Zeppelin.

Tenor saxophonist Hans Dulfer focuses on the heritage of Huddie William Ledbetter (1885-1949), better known as Leadbelly. This American blues legend was known for his raw guitar style and haunting songs such as In the Pines/Where Did You Sleep Last Night’ and ‘House of the Rising Sun’. Leadbelly was a controversial figure—he spent many years in prison, the subject of several of his songs. His compositions were covered by celebrated bands and musicians, such as The Beach Boys, Tom Waits, Nirvana, Led Zeppelin and saxofonist Clifford Jordan. Dulfer will perform with various musicians including guitarist Jerôme Hol.

October 1 is a special date for tenor sax player Hans Dulfer and the Bimhuis: October 1, 1974 was the opening date of the first Bimhuis at Oudeschans, of which Dulfer was one of the founders. During his career Hans Dulfer has kept his ears open for new sounds, energetic beats and catchy melodies. ‘Dulfer rambles on... still a driving force in Dutch jazz and pop music’ (NRC).

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 till 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
