INTERNATIONALE GAUDEAMUS MUZIEKWEEK 2010
LATE NIGHT CONCERT WITH MONICA GERMINO
Compositions by Julia Wolfe, David Dramm, Donnacha Dennehy, Catherine Kontz, Arnoud Noordegraaf
Every year Music Centre Netherlands presents its Music Week, a cross section of the newest developments in the global village of contemporary music. The main component of this international festival is the competition for young composers.
Monica Germino combines virtuoso violin playing with singing, electronics and video. She is part of the quartet Electra and has collaborated with the likes of such avant-garde composers as Louis Andriessen and György Ligeti. For her programme Deviation six composers were challenged to create work for solo violin and live electronics that consciously deviates from every norm. ‘Her virtuosity was exhilarating... American-born, Netherlands-based, she is a striking presence whose recital was an integrated mixed-media event’ (Sunday Times).
