JAMES CARTER QUARTET & GUESTS
LIVING MY LIFE: THE MUSIC OF DON BYAS
James Carter saxen, Joris Roelofs altsax, Ruud Breuls trompet, Gerard Gibbs piano, Ralphe Armstrong bas, Leonard King drums
James Carter pays tribute to his great example Don Byas, founder of the warm, breathy tenor sound that is now commonplace among saxophonists. It’s no coincidence that this unique concert is taking place at the Bimhuis: in his heyday Byas moved to Amsterdam from New York, where he had played alongside Charlie Parker. Carter, who himself is one of the most famous tenorists of his generation, will meet leading Dutch jazz artists such as Ruud Breuls and Joris Roelofs.
