JOE LOVANO QUARTET
Joe Lovano-tenor saxophone, James Weidman-piano, Dennis Irwin-bass, Otis Brown III-drums
In the 25 years that the Bimhuis audience has been able to watch and listen to Joe Lovano, his reputation developed from promising young musician to the superstar - 'one of the greatest musicians in jazz history' (The New York Times)- that he is today. With his duo with Hank Jones (2 nights, last year) he brought out standing ovations in the Bimhuis and he did the same with his Nonet (also 2 nights). As a band leader he recorded 25 albums, most of them on Blue Note. 'The tenor saxophonist Joe Lovano works in many forms... but at bottom he's a soulful, note caressing, tradition loving tenor player... this quartet goes deep into jazz's traditional pulse, while retaining a great deal of its mystery, its sense of moment-to-moment discovery.' (The New York Times).
