John Abercrombie’s new music may sound calmer, but stylistically it’s as rich as his psychedelic jazz from the 1960s. The full-bodied sound of his electric guitar coalesces perfectly with the violin of Marc Feldman and Joey Baron’s drums. With these wizards from the Downtown scene Abercrombie already created three albums, intertwining jazz with folk, raga, gypsy music and African music. Bass player Thomas Morgan previously played with Steve Coleman. ‘Like music in a dream—rich, beautiful, fragmentary and stirring, both strange and familiar’ (Jazz Times).
