TOKYO'S BAD BOYS
Joris Posthumus alt-/sopraansax/composities, Yuichiro Tokuda altsax, Yuki Nakae tenorsax, Shunichi Yanagi piano, Satoshi Tokuda bas, Gaku Hasegawa drums
Energetic band from the lively Tokyo jazz scene, brought together by Joris Posthumus and featuring no less than three sax players. ‘Posthumus is on fire’ (Jazzism).
‘The Japanese jazz scene is alive and booming’, says alto saxophonist Joris Posthumus, who befriended his Tokyo-based colleague Yuichiro Tokuda during a tour in the Far East with the group State of Monc. Joris was invited for a Japanese tour with Yuichiro’s band, ‘a fantastic experience’, says the Dutch saxophonist.
In 2015 Joris in his turn invited his Japanese friend for concerts in The Netherlands and Belgium, ‘a bombardment of speed, technique, emotion and surprise’, according to Jazz.nu. Shortly after, Joris traveled to Japan to record with a ‘dream team’ from Tokyo. The album received great acclaim and now Tokyo’s Bad Boys have finally arrived in The Netherlands.
‘A wonderful album, full of blistering ensemble playing and sparkling solos. Posthumus is on fire’ (Jazzism).
The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 till 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
