KENNY GARRETT QUARTET
Kenny Garrett saxophone, Vernell Brown piano, Corcoran Holt bass, McClenty Hunter drums
The first time that alto saxophone player Kenny Garrett set foot on the Bimhuis stage was in 1986, when he performed with Art Blakey’s Jazz Messengers. In 2010 he finally returned, as a seasoned superstar, to blow the roof off the sold-out hall with his exciting crossover of bop and funk. In 2012 he continues to honour Miles Davis, in whose band he played for five years. Coltrane and McCoy Tyner are role models for him as well. ‘In Garrett’s best music, happiness and joy are intertwined with spiritual expression’ (JazzTimes).
