Les Espoirs de Coronthie consists of former street kids from Guinee. The band is very popular in West Africa, countering the omnipresent hip-hop scene by making traditional music accessible for young people. NRC reviewed their performance at Amsterdam Roots 2010: ‘Les Espoirs de Coronthie set a positive mood for the festival. Their music, which prominently features balafon and kora, and their energetic presentation radiated optimism.’
