Fragments of a telephone conversation sing a duet with the soft hum of an escalator. Hurried footsteps, a whistle, and a muffled public address announcement are transformed into a sweet song suddenly drowned out by the roar of roller suitcases.
In its latest concert series - Loop-Copy-Mutate: Music from People and Places - the Genetic Choir turns the station's sounds into a choral performance. Underground, in the yet unfinished North-South Line metro station, the choir takes these sounds and – together with laptop musician Robert van Heumen and programmer Stelios Manousakis – uses them for an instant composition concert:
Music as vital and unpredictable as the city itself.
There are four North-South Line concerts (underground): 2 July 2017 - 1pm / 3pm / 7pm / 9pm
Also: On June 2, 17 and 25 the Genetic Choir organizes three soundwalks at Central Station in Amsterdam, letting you experience the sounds of the station as a symphony. Afterwards you will be offered the opportunity to contribute sound samples to the main concert on July 2. A ticket for the Genetic Choir concerts on July 2 will offer free entry to the soundwalk.
If you have bought tickets prior to the soundwalk, please make reservations via email@example.com.
