One time, John Cage expressed his pity towards his European colleagues who had to carry around the burden of tradition. He considered himself as being liberated and a part of the uninhibited pioneer spirit that distinguishes America since Ives and Cowell. In America Disconnected the Maarten Altena Ensemble brings together new music of four prominent composers. Robert Ashley turns the ensemble into a ghost choir with the reincarnation of Berlioz, Federico Reuben makes letters sing in the spirit of Giordano Bruno who got burned at the stake, Alvin Curran wrote an in memoriam for Steve Lacey and Allison Cameron composed a hymn to Ives.
