PARKER/BARRETT/VATCHER
Evan Parker-tenor sax, soprano sax, Richard Barrett-keyboards, elektronica, Michael Vatcher-drums
British soprano and tenor saxophonist Evan Parker is one of the giants of the European impro-scene and famous for his 'circular breathing'-technique. He began his career in the early sixties as a Coltrane adept, but in 1965 he joined the Spontaneous Music Ensemble. Parker went on to work with the likes of Derek Bailey and Misha Mengelberg, with Squarepusher and Spring Heel Jack. This past decade he has been fascinated by electronic distortion, as expressed in his Electro-Acoustic Ensemble. One of its members is the multiple award winning composer/keyboard player Richard Barrett. His composition Vanity (1994) is generally regarded to be one of the most important compositions for orchestra in the 1990s. Drummer Michael Vatcher, known for his colourful playing with Available Jelly, Braam/DeJoode/Vatcher, 4 Walls, Franky Douglas Sunchild, Corkestra and many projects with Michael Moore, brought this trio together last year for a concert in the Bimhuis, and was one of the high points of 2007. Don't miss it this time around!
