Saxophonist, clarinettist and visual artist Peter Brotzmann is one of the founders of European free jazz. His raw, lyrical playing encompasses the whole history of jazz and avant-garde music. With his legendary octet he undermined musical traditions on the groundbreaking album Machine Gun (1968). For over ten years now the main aim of his Chicago Tentet has been collective improvisation. Saxophone player Ken Vandermark and cello player Fred Lonberg-Holm are the driving forces and anchormen behind the collective with a changing line-up that consists of musicians who have all made a name for themselves on the international improv scene.‘One of the most exhilarating jazz-oriented groups on the scene, reaching heights of nearly unbearable intensity and beauty’ (Cadence).
