Susanne Alt plays funky modern soul jazz, or ‘good dance music, like jazz music was originally intended’ (Het Financieele Dagblad). The Amsterdam based alto saxophone player cites influences from contemporary dance as well as the funk of Maceo Parker and Fred Wesley, who performed on the CD On Track. Her new CD How to Kiss will be launched in the Bimhuis with a concert where her band, powered by drummers Gijs Dijkhuizen and Jamal Thomas, effortlessly switches between jazz and funk. ‘Fantastic musicians who can all write very good tunes’ (Jazzism).
