Singular vocalist and band from New York present the album Elegy (ECM), featuring songs and instrumentals floating between baroque, ambient, cabaret and avant-garde.

Theo Bleckmann is not just a gifted jazz vocalist, he’s also an arranger and composer with a very eclectic taste. Time and again he manages to find surprising perspectives. Elegy, his first album for the renowned ECM label, relates to death, but in a transcendent, hopeful way. Alongside an instrumental funeral march Bleckmann brings light with the musical song Comedy Tonight.

German-born singer Theo Bleckmann has been residing in New York since 1989. He made name collaborating with contemporary composer such as Laurie Anderson, Meredith Monk and Philip Glass, but his repertory also includes classical music and jazz. At the Bimhuis he will perform with respected improvising musicians.

‘He’s a gifted singer (and twister) of songs, his voice flexible and rich, his phrasing sensitive and clear’ (Downbeat).

The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 till 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
