SOUNDS OF BRAZIL
Fábio Torres piano/Fender Rhodes, Paulo Paulelli bas, Edu Ribeiro drums
This Brazilian piano trio plays contemporary versions of Brazilian pop and folk, alongside original compositions. Their album Song for Maura with Paquito D’Rivera won a Grammy.
With Brazilian pop and folk as building blocks, these three musicians create their own music, which sounds original, contemporary and supertight. Trio Corrente was founded in 2009 and has accompanied well-known jazz msucians such as Stacey kent, Joyce Moreno and Hamilton de Holanda. Together with Cuban sax and clarinet player Paquito D’Rivera they recorded Song for Maura, which received the Grammy for Best Latin Jazz Album. As a trio they also released several albums, of which Vol. 3 was voted best jazz album of 2016 by Downbeat critic Allen Morrison.
‘Trio Corrente is tight as a drum. Fluid piano, spunky electric bass and tasteful drumming’ (Downbeat).
The Bimhuis restaurant is open prior to the concert from 6.30 till 8.30PM (reservations via 020-7882158). After the concert, the Bimhuis Café is open (free entrance).
