Luc Ex, who originally played bass in punk band The Ex, is a passionate champion of improvised music. He runs the CD label Red Note and initiated various ensembles. Triolex, with cello player Tristan Honsinger and singer Phil Minton, is a vehicle for Dadaesque group improvisation. The quartet’s secret weapon is drummer Serigne C.M. Gueye, who improvises with African rhythms.
The musicians in Gut 3 have no qualms about entering each other’s territory. Rhythmic vocals, a singing trombone or honking percussion: Buhrs, Bauer and Purves provide a continuous stream of intensity and adventure.
