Yuri Honing, who will receive the prestigious Boy Edgar Prize in May, sees jazz as a language open to encounters with pop, classical and Arabic music. His inimitable saxophone sound is always instantly recognizable, from ripping tenor to lyrical soprano. Aside from adventurous musical forays into dance and electronica he regularly returns to acoustic jazz. After stints with Michiel Borstlap and Paul Bley he is once again playing with an exceptionally talented pianist, Wolfert Brederode. ‘From note one you know that saxophonist Honing has ‘got it’ and that tone can cut through your soul’ (The Independent).
